How Thetford Photography Continues to Support the Environment
At Thetford Photography, we’ve always believed that businesses have a responsibility to leave the world a better place than they found it. Since the beginning, our goal has been to capture life’s best moments while also contributing to a healthier planet. We’re proud to say that our efforts have led to 2,179 trees being planted and 44 environmental projects funded. And while we’ve been through some tough times—including surviving the challenges of a global pandemic—we’ve never wavered in our commitment to sustainability.
But this journey is far from over. We want to do even more in the future, with plans to electrify our operations and source greener supplies. Here’s a closer look at what we’ve done so far and what we hope to achieve going forward.
2,179 Trees Planted: A Small Step Toward a Greener Future
When we first started thinking about our environmental impact, planting trees seemed like a simple yet powerful way to contribute. Little did we know how meaningful that decision would become. To date, we’ve planted 2,179 trees through our partnership with Ecologi, and every one of those trees represents a small but significant step toward combating climate change.
Why Trees Matter
Trees are nature’s air filters. They absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) and release oxygen, making them essential for combating climate change. For us, planting trees isn’t just a numbers game—it’s a tangible way to give back to the planet. Each tree helps offset our carbon emissions, ensuring that our business is not only carbon-neutral but working toward being carbon-positive.
What makes this even more rewarding is knowing that these trees aren’t just scattered randomly—they’re part of global reforestation projects that are carefully planned to maximize environmental benefit. Whether it’s restoring deforested areas or preventing soil erosion, every tree we plant has a purpose.
Our Clients Make This Possible
Every time you book with us, you’re contributing to this initiative. It’s because of your trust in our services that we’ve been able to make these investments. So, while we might be the ones planting the trees, you’re just as much a part of this journey as we are.
I remember talking to one of our regular clients, Sarah, after a shoot. She told me how much she appreciated knowing that by choosing Thetford Photography, she was indirectly helping reforest the planet. That kind of feedback reminds us that our environmental efforts resonate with our clients, and it keeps us motivated to do even more.
44 Projects Funded: Our Global Environmental Impact
While tree planting is a significant part of our sustainability strategy, it’s not the only way we’re giving back to the environment. We’ve also funded 44 environmental projects around the world, from renewable energy initiatives to habitat restoration efforts.
Supporting Diverse Environmental Projects
One of the projects we’re particularly proud of is a wind farm in Mexico. This project not only generates clean energy but also provides jobs and improves infrastructure in the local community. Another project close to our hearts involves protecting the Amazon rainforest from deforestation, ensuring that one of the world’s most vital ecosystems continues to thrive.
These aren’t just feel-good projects—they have real, measurable impacts. By supporting these initiatives, we’re able to offset even more of our carbon footprint and contribute to global efforts to fight climate change.
Why This Matters to Us (And to You)
We know that in today’s world, consumers are looking for more than just a product or service—they want to support businesses that share their values. That’s why we’re transparent about our environmental efforts and are always looking for ways to do better. By working with international programs through Ecologi, we’re able to contribute to projects that align with our mission and have a lasting positive impact.
I recall a conversation with a client named James, who runs a sustainable architecture firm. He told me that he specifically chose us because of our environmental initiatives. He said, “It’s refreshing to see a photography business that’s just as committed to sustainability as I am in my field.” It’s moments like that which reassure us that we’re on the right track.
Surviving Challenging Times and Staying True to Our Values
It hasn’t always been easy to maintain this level of commitment to the environment. Like many small businesses, we faced some tough times during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our industry was hit hard, and there were moments when we weren’t sure what the future would hold. But through it all, we stayed true to our mission.
The Importance of Resilience
What kept us going was the belief that businesses like ours can be a force for good, even during challenging times. In fact, our commitment to the environment became even more important during the pandemic. We realized that if we wanted to leave the planet in better shape for future generations, we couldn’t afford to take a step back—even when times were tough.
One of the biggest lessons we learned during this period was the importance of resilience. We adapted, streamlined our operations, and found new ways to stay connected with our clients. And through it all, we kept planting trees and supporting environmental projects. We may not be the biggest company, but we’re determined to make a meaningful impact.
Looking Ahead: Electrification and Greener Supplies
While we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, we know there’s still more work to be done. That’s why we’re making plans to further reduce our carbon footprint by electrifying our operations. We’re looking into electric vehicles for transportation, and we’re exploring ways to power our studio with renewable energy.
Sourcing Greener Products
In addition to electrification, we’re also committed to sourcing greener supplies. From eco-friendly packaging to sustainably sourced photo albums, we’re always looking for ways to make our operations as environmentally friendly as possible.
We’re also working closely with our suppliers to ensure that the products we use meet the highest environmental standards. This is an ongoing process, and we’re always on the lookout for new opportunities to reduce our impact.
A Call to Action: Join Us in Supporting the Planet
At Thetford Photography, we’re committed to doing our part for the environment. But we can’t do it alone. Every client who chooses us is helping to support our mission of leaving the planet better than we found it.
