Diss Panto Photographer & Production Shots
Professional production photography that helps fill seats
At the end of November 2025, we were asked to help the team behind Diss Pantomime with their marketing images for their Christmas production. On the surface, that might sound like a fairly straightforward job — turn up, take some photos, send them over. In reality, it was one of those projects that perfectly highlights how good production photography can directly support awareness, engagement, and ultimately ticket sales.
We photograph a lot of pantomime and theatre productions in and around Thetford and the surrounding areas, working with many of the better-known and most established production companies locally. So being invited to travel across to Diss to photograph their production was genuinely lovely — not just because it’s always nice to be asked somewhere new, but because it showed real trust in what we do.
And as it turned out, the results spoke for themselves.
Why Pantomime Photography Is About More Than Just “Nice Photos”
If you’re a theatre producer or marketing manager, you already know this: people don’t buy tickets based on a poster alone anymore. They buy tickets because they can picture themselves there.
That’s especially true for pantomime.
Parents want to know:
-
Will my kids enjoy this?
-
Is it colourful and lively?
-
Does it feel fun, safe, and well-produced?
Adults want to know:
-
Is this worth the money?
-
Does it look professional?
-
Is it going to be a good night out?
Strong pantomime photography answers all of those questions instantly.
A single, well-timed image of a cast mid-song, a comic moment landing perfectly, or a full-stage ensemble shot under proper lighting can do more for ticket sales than paragraphs of text. That’s why production photography isn’t just documentation — it’s marketing.
How We Approach Theatre & Pantomime Photography
Photographing the Full Dress Rehearsal
For Diss Pantomime, as with most productions we photograph, we attended the full dress rehearsal. This is, without question, the best moment to capture marketing images.
The costumes are finished.
The lighting is set.
The cast are in performance mode.
And crucially, there’s no pressure from a live audience.
Over the years, I’ve learned that dress rehearsals give you the most honest version of the show. Performers are focused, directors are happy for you to move quietly if needed, and nothing feels rushed. It’s also when mistakes are still allowed — which often leads to more relaxed, natural performances that photograph beautifully.
Shooting From the Audience Perspective
One thing we’re very deliberate about is where we shoot from.
We photograph primarily from the audience’s point of view.
Why? Because that’s exactly how your ticket buyers will experience the show.
When someone sees an image in a Facebook ad or Instagram post, they subconsciously ask: “Is that what it’ll look like if I’m sitting there?” If the answer is yes, they’re far more likely to click, share, or book.
That means:
-
Wide shots that show the full stage
-
Mid-range shots that capture interaction between characters
-
Close-ups that highlight expression, comedy, and emotion
All framed as naturally as possible.
Fast Turnaround: Because Timing Matters
One of the things we’re most known for — and one of the main reasons production teams come back to us — is speed.
For Diss Pantomime, we delivered over 300 edited images within 24 hours.
That’s not an accident. It’s something we’ve built our workflow around because theatre marketing is time-sensitive. Pantomime runs are short, competition for attention is fierce, and you don’t have weeks to wait for images while half your run ticks by.
Why 24 Hours Makes a Difference
Fast image delivery means:
-
Social media posts can start immediately
-
Facebook ads can be launched while excitement is high
-
“Selling fast” messaging can be backed up visually
-
Cast and crew can start sharing straight away
I’ve lost count of the number of times a marketing manager has said, “We posted one image last night and ticket sales jumped this morning.” That only happens when images arrive quickly enough to be useful.
Giving Marketing Teams Options, Not Just Highlights
Another big part of our approach is volume with purpose.
Three hundred images might sound excessive until you’re the one running the social media accounts.
Marketing teams need:
-
Landscape images
-
Portrait crops
-
Close-ups
-
Group shots
-
Vertical images for stories
-
Safer shots and bolder ones
By delivering a large, well-edited set, we give marketing teams the freedom to:
-
Test what performs best
-
Keep content fresh throughout the run
-
Avoid reposting the same image repeatedly
For Diss, this meant they could maintain momentum across Facebook and Instagram for the duration of the production, rather than relying on a handful of shots.
The Impact: A Standout Year for Diss Pantomime
According to the comments and feedback shared publicly by the Diss Pantomime team, 2025 was their most successful year yet.
Now, I’ll be the first to say that no single element makes a production successful. A great script, committed performers, solid direction, and community support all matter enormously.
But I’d like to think — and I believe fairly — that the photography played a part.
Strong images:
-
Increased awareness
-
Encouraged sharing
-
Made the production feel unmissable
-
Helped last-minute bookers feel confident
When people can see how good something looks, they’re far more likely to act.
Photography That Also Gives Something Back to the Cast
One thing I particularly enjoyed about working with Diss was how the images were also used internally.
The cast and crew received access to the photos as mementos of their involvement in the production. For many performers — especially younger ones — these images become part of their personal memories of being on stage.
As a photographer, that side of the job never gets old.
There’s something genuinely nice about knowing that years down the line, someone will still have a photo of themselves in costume, mid-performance, looking confident and proud.

Why We’re Not the Cheapest — And Why That’s Okay
We’re upfront about this: we’re not the cheapest production photographers.
But theatre and pantomime companies don’t come to us for the lowest price. They come to us because they know they’ll get:
-
Consistently high-quality images
-
Extremely fast turnaround
-
A large, usable image library
-
Someone who understands live performance
-
Someone who doesn’t get in the way
Experience matters in theatre photography. Knowing when not to press the shutter is just as important as knowing when to capture the moment.
Working With Us on Your Next Theatre Production
If you’re a theatre producer, marketing manager, or part of a production team looking to:

Increase awareness
-
Improve social media performance
-
Support ticket sales
-

We regularly photograph productions across Thetford and the wider region, and we genuinely love working with theatre companies who care about putting on great shows and getting them seen.
Let’s Talk
If you’re planning a future pantomime or stage production and want photography that works as hard as your cast does, drop us a line. We’d love to hear about your show and see how we can help support its success.
Because great theatre deserves to be seen — not just by the people already in the room, but by everyone who hasn’t booked yet.
